Introduction
To recognise outstanding industry practitioners and professionals for their consistent contribution and significant achievements in the development of a green and sustainable built environment, the BCA and the Singapore Green Building Council (SGBC) have launched a joint BCA-SGBC Green Building Individual Award.
Through this the award, we hope to motivate our green workforce to constantly challenge their limits in developing innovative solutions for the green building sector. By recognising our talents and raising the profile of built environment careers, the industry will also be able to attract more locals to join the green collar workforce and steer the industry towards greater heights.
Award categories
The BCA-SGBC Award recognises individuals across the whole value chain in the building and construction sector and comprises four categories:
- Green Advocate
Recognises the industry's individuals who exude passion, leadership and entrepreneurial qualities in the championing of our green building movement
- Green Architect
Recognises the architect's achievements towards a greener and more sustainable built environment
- Green Engineer
Recognises the accomplishments of Civil and Structural, and Mechanical and Electrical engineers in the green and sustainability front
- Green Innovator
Recognises researchers for their breakthrough achievements in innovative green building products and technology
Entry criteria
The awards competition is open to all professionals/practitioners who have contributed immensely to Singapore's green building movement and are currently working in locally registered firms, agencies or institutions:
- Green Advocate
- Nominee must have strong involvement and a good record in green developments in Singapore and overseas at least over the past three years
- Nominee must be working in a Singapore-registered firm
- Green Architect
- Nominee must have strong involvement and a good record in green developments in Singapore and overseas, at least over the past three years
- Nominee must be a BOA-Registered Architect practising in a Singapore-registered firm
- Green Engineer (Civil & Structural or Mechanical & Electrical)
- Nominee must have strong involvement and a good record in green developments in Singapore and overseas, at least over the past three years
- Nominee must be a PEB-Registered Professional Engineer practising in a Singapore-registered firm
- Green Innovator
- Nominee (from either private or public sector) must have strong involvement and a good record in green building R&D / innovation at least over the past three years
- Nominee must be working in a Singapore-registered firm or undertaking research in a local Institute of Higher Learning
Assessment criteria and scoring system
Nominees are evaluated based on three broad areas:
- His / her contribution to the local green building movement, by virtue of the position one holds or the discipline that one practices;
- His / her additional contribution to the green-related areas, which could be in a personal or professional capacity, demonstrating the extra mile that one has gone to bring about sensitisation on green and sustainability theme;
- His / her professional achievements through continual education development in green and sustainable fields.

Assessment committee
All entries will be judged by an Assessment Panel chaired by BCA's CEO Dr. John Keung and SGBC's President, Er. Lee Chuan Seng. The rest of the Panel comprises distinguished representatives from various disciplines within the building and construction industry and local Institutes of Higher Learning.
Applications and assessment process
Interested parties are to submit an entry form to BCA to register their interest. There are two modes of nomination - Self-nomination and by a fellow professional or practitioner. Further details on the application process, such as supporting materials, report format and addressor are stated in the entry form.
The judges will evaluate all valid entries and short-listed candidates will be required to make a presentation to the jury panel.
